Hey! So nice to speak with you! Can you tell our readers a little bit more about yourself? Where are you originally from and where do you live now?
I am from Venezuela, I left when I was nine years old when my mother married a man from Holland who worked for Shell Oil. We moved to England and lived there for about 5 years. After that we moved to Louisiana for one year and Houston after that. After College I moved to Los Angeles for about seven years then Miami for 7 years also and at the moment I am back in Houston but I am mostly traveling for work around the country and around the world where needed. That is the nature of my business, there is no one place. I spend most of my time between Houston and Miami.

Tell us a little bit more about what your company does and how it started? How does it help your customers?
I am a film director, my job is to conceptualize world building and build narratives. At Caldera Films we produce commercials mainly for brands around the world. This allows us a unique perspective where we become a director-driven production company. I am also not the only director. There are so many outstanding creatives that join our creative hub and we unite them with the right client need. Sometimes I take on project if I feel I strongly can bring the best fit and we are also able to bring other directors more inclined to that niche. In that sense we are both the executive producer and the creative director and for clients that is the best scenario. We know what it takes to bring projects to life and we bring the creatives that can live in their budget needs.
We work closely with the creative teams of the companies and I believe that is where we stand out. We do not take and leave we are involved and collaborative. We know the creatives inside the brands are there before us and will be there after us so collaboration is the key. We built Caldera Films around the idea that brands deserve cinematic storytelling without losing the flexibility and collaboration modern campaigns require.”
If someone wants to start a business, what advice will help them?
If you love it just do it. Also, take some time to understand the market, at least what the baseline is to have some financial idea and then just run with it. You will find where you think you can be and where you want to be once you are in it so might as well just go for it and figure it out along the way. Don't skip the financials, be on top of it like a hawk.
What was one feedback from a happy customer/client that you won't forget about?
"You have the best crew" I am picky about who we involve in because the people you hire will represent your company. My goal right now is to unite the best of the best in our industry. When our clients come to us I want them to know immediately that this is the top of class creatives under one house.
Where do you see your company in the future?
I see us evolving into our own niche of elevated live-action/virtual production for brands and original content.
What is the biggest misconception about your industry?
Right now, as things change in the world because of ai the misconception is that you need less people to deliver high end work. AI has allowed us to build things that before were only accesible to very few companies. As the field levels out, it is us, the highly creative with new tools that are gearing up to expand rather than shrink. The greatest winners are of course the companies who hire us. They will now have access to reach new heights with less financial risk. That may sound like we do more for less but that is also not true. Companies take a long time for market feedback and having to bet on one large campaign means there is more time for us to wait for what worked or not. Now, things moving faster, companies can multiply their resources and instead of one campaign a year we have brands running multiple campaigns per quarter. That means more opportunities for everyone, that means you now need more people to deliver high end work.
What has been one of your biggest struggles building your business and how did you deal with it?
The biggest challenge has been building visibility in a highly saturated industry.Once clients discover us, the response is usually the same: they wish they had found us sooner. This is why we are pushing hard for press releases and anything we can do to get our business out there.
What was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?
Radiohead and Lionel Messi.
Any shoutouts you want to make?
Shoutout to the incredible crew, collaborators, and creatives who continue to push every project further than what seemed possible on paper.
