So nice to meet you! First off, what’s your name? Tell our readers a bit about yourself—where you’re from originally and where you live now.
My name is Witneigh, and I’m the founder of Duchess Bridal, Duchess Collection, and several related fashion ventures. I’m originally from North Carolina and am currently based in Greensboro, where I’ve spent the past several years building businesses and creative projects within the fashion industry.
Fashion has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. What began with a love of design, styling, and craftsmanship eventually evolved into Duchess Bridal, a couture-focused bridal house known for customization and helping women feel confident and fully themselves. Today, my work spans everything from bridal styling and bespoke design to campaign development, photoshoots, and brand building.
Tell us one thing you love about where you live now?
What I appreciate most is the sense of community. Some of the most meaningful relationships, opportunities, and milestones in my life happened here, and that will always make Greensboro special to me.
Tell us a little bit more about what your company does and how it started? How does it help your customers?
Duchess Bridal is a couture-focused bridal house specializing in designer gowns, customization, bespoke design, and highly personalized styling experiences. We help brides find a gown that not only fits beautifully, but feels like an authentic reflection of who they are.
The business grew from a lifelong love of fashion and years spent working in the bridal industry. Over time, what began as a bridal boutique evolved into something much more creative and design-driven. Today, in addition to curating collections from designers around the world, we offer customizations, original Duchess Collection designs, and one-of-a-kind pieces created specifically for our clients.
At its core, our work is about helping women feel confident, celebrated, and fully themselves during one of the most meaningful moments of their lives. We believe the experience should feel just as memorable as the gown itself.
If someone wants to start a business, what advice will help them?
Be willing to trust your vision before anyone else does. Most meaningful businesses begin as an idea that makes sense to only a handful of people.
Stay curious, keep learning, and don’t be afraid to evolve. The businesses that last are usually built by people who remain committed to the mission while allowing the path to change along the way.
Where do you see your company in the future?
I hope Duchess continues to evolve into a recognized fashion brand known for creativity, originality, and strong design. Bridal will always be at the heart of what we do, but I’m excited about creating collections, experiences, and future ventures that allow us to reach women in new ways.
I’ve always believed that fashion has the power to make people feel seen, confident, and expressive. My goal is to continue creating things that women connect with long before and long after their wedding day.
What matters most to me is building something with a clear identity. Trends come and go, but brands that stand for something tend to last.
What was one feedback from a happy customer/client that you won't forget about?
One comment I’ll never forget came from a bride who told me, “You helped me feel like myself again.”
It had very little to do with the gown itself and everything to do with how she felt wearing it. Bridal appointments often happen during seasons of transition, stress, and big life changes, so hearing that we helped someone reconnect with their confidence and identity meant a lot to me. Moments like that remind me that what we do is about much more than fashion.
What is the biggest misconception about your industry?
One of the biggest misconceptions about the bridal industry is that it’s just about finding a dress.
Of course the dress matters, but what people are really searching for is how they want to feel. Confidence, excitement, self-expression, certainty, joy. The gown simply becomes the vehicle for that feeling.
The most memorable bridal experiences aren’t about convincing someone to buy something. They’re about helping someone recognize themselves when they look in the mirror.
What has been one of your biggest struggles building your business and how did you deal with it?
One of the biggest challenges has been staying committed to a vision before there was proof it would work.
When you’re creating something that doesn’t already exist around you, there are times you have to believe in it before anyone else does. I’ve experienced that with fashion, creative projects, and building a couture-focused brand in a market where many people didn’t expect it.
There were certainly moments of uncertainty, but I’ve learned that not everyone needs to understand your vision in the beginning. What matters is continuing to refine it, improve it, and stay committed to the work. Over time, consistency has a way of turning what once seemed unlikely into something people can clearly see.
Who was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?
Growing up, my favorite athlete was Javier López from the Atlanta Braves. My mom and sister were huge Braves fans, and he was always my favorite player to watch. :)
My favorite music artist was Shania Twain. I loved her confidence, individuality, and the way she blended country music with her own unique style. Looking back, it’s probably no surprise that I was drawn to someone who wasn’t afraid to do things a little differently.
Any shoutouts you want to make?
I’d love to give a shoutout to my sister, Ashleigh. She’s been one of my biggest supporters and champions throughout my life. She’s always encouraged me to trust my instincts, think creatively, and build things in a way that feels authentic to who I am.
She is the founder of Little Native Coffee Co., Cloche Coffee, and The Littlest Tea Room in downtown Raleigh/Durham. What I admire most is her ability to create spaces that feel thoughtful, welcoming, and deeply connected to the community around them.
One of our sayings to each other has always been, “Everything is figureoutable,” and that mindset has carried me through more challenges than I can count.
