So nice to meet you! First off, what’s your name? Tell our readers a bit about yourself—where you’re from originally and where you live now.

My name is Emine, founder of E Plus Interiors, a Houston-based interior design studio. I’m originally from Türkiye, where I studied Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, and I moved to Houston in 2013 to complete my Master of Architecture at the University of Houston. Today, I work as an interior designer in Houston, creating thoughtful residential and commercial spaces.

Tell us one thing you love about where you live now?

What I love about Houston is its diversity. Every project reflects a unique culture and lifestyle, which constantly inspires my work as a Houston interior designer. Working with clients from different backgrounds allows me to create unique, customized interiors that feel authentic to each space.

Tell us a little bit more about what your company does and how it started? How does it help your customers?

E Plus Interiors is a Houston-based interior design studio specializing in residential and commercial interior design services, with a focus on bespoke interiors tailored to each client. We offer full-service interior design in Houston, including space planning, concept development, finish selections, and custom furniture design.

Before founding my own firm, I worked as an architectural designer, gaining over 8 years of experience across healthcare, hospitality, commercial, and residential projects. This background allows me to approach each project with a strong understanding of both spatial planning and technical detailing.

I started the studio to create more meaningful, human centered designs that go beyond aesthetics and truly reflect how people live and work. I guide my clients through every step of the process, simplifying complex decisions and transforming homes and commercial spaces into cohesive, functional, and thoughtfully designed interiors.

Our office is located at 5718 Westheimer Rd, Suite 1000 in Houston, and client visits are available by appointment only.

If someone wants to start a business, what advice will help them?

My advice, start before you feel fully ready, but build structure early clear pricing, contracts, and boundaries are essential. And just as important, find your support circle. Surround yourself with the right people through networking and community; having that support can make all the difference in your growth.

Where do you see your company in the future?

In the future, I see E Plus Interiors growing into a recognized Houston interior design studio with a strong portfolio of residential and commercial projects, while continuing to develop a design language rooted in materiality, detail, and human experience. I also hope to create a supportive and inspiring environment a place where my team feels happy, valued, and motivated to grow.

What was one feedback from a happy customer/client that you won't forget about?

One moment that stayed with me was when a client told me, after deciding to work with me, “I really connect with your energy and your design approach. I feel like you can help me create a home I’ll be happy living in every day.” That kind of trust and emotional connection is exactly why I do this work.

What is the biggest misconception about your industry?

One of the biggest misconceptions about interior design is that it’s only about decoration. In reality, it involves space planning, technical drawings, lighting design, ADA-compliant design, and problem-solving. A well-designed space is not only beautiful, but also highly functional and thoughtfully planned.

What has been one of your biggest struggles building your business and how did you deal with it?

One of my biggest challenges was finding financial support to invest in establishing my firm. That experience pushed me to seek out resources and guidance through organizations that support entrepreneurs, such as SCORE and U.S. Small Business Administration. Through these platforms, I gained valuable mentorship and direction, which helped me build a stronger foundation for my business.

Who was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?

Growing up, my favorite musician was Barıs Manco. After moving to the United States, I began exploring the local jazz scene in Houston, and those experiences continue to shape my sense of rhythm, mood, and atmosphere in design. I didn’t follow a specific athlete growing up, but I’ve always admired their discipline and consistency.

Any shoutouts you want to make?

I’d love to thank my clients, collaborators, women entrepreneurs and the Houston design community for their trust and support.

Where can our readers learn more about you and your company?

I’d love to thank my clients, collaborators, fellow women entrepreneurs, and the Houston design community for their trust and support, as well as organizations like American Institute of Architects, American Society of Interior Designers, and Interior Design Society for fostering connection and professional growth.
