Hey! So nice to speak with you! Can you tell our readers a little bit more about yourself? Where are you originally from and where do you live now?
I was raised in the Pico-Union area of Los Angeles, and I enrolled at Morehouse College, where I earned my degree in business administration before starting my career as an external auditor with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). My time there gave me a strong foundation in accounting and business strategy. Today, I’m the founder of ABC Financial Group, where I combine that expertise with a focus on legacy-building, opportunity creation, and leadership with integrity.
Tell us one thing you love about where you live now?
I live in the entertainment capital of the world. I am an avid sports fan who has access to multiple sporting events, including the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Olympics in 2028. As a native of Los Angeles, these two events will help shape the city in the coming years to the betterment of the community and its inhabitants.
Tell us a little bit more about what your company does and how it started? How does it help your customers?
Behind every thriving business is a solid financial foundation—and for countless entrepreneurs across the country, that foundation is ABC Financial Group. We’ve build this firm with the belief that every business deserves access to clear, reliable financial support. What started as a shared vision between two friends has grown into a virtual, bi-coastal company with offices in Los Angeles and Atlanta, serving clients all across the country.
We offer a full range of accounting services—bookkeeping, payroll, tax preparation, consulting, and advisory support—each tailored to fit the unique needs of the businesses we work with. By leveraging secure, modern technology, we make it easy for clients to access their financial records anytime, anywhere, without the need for an in-house team.
Our goal has always been simple: remove stress from financial management so entrepreneurs can focus on growing their business with confidence.
If someone wants to start a business, what's advice that will help them?
To start a business, you need three things: 1. Idea, service or product you sell; 2. Customer base that will buy your idea, service or product; 3. The ability to collect cash or cash equivalents after the sale If you only perform 2 of the three points (and it does not matter which two you choose), you will fail in business. You need to cultivate all three aspects to scale your business. Lastly, have a global vision of where you want your business to be in five years. This will help you keep your perspective when making decisions.
What was one feedback from a happy customer/client that you won't forget about?
We are delighted to share that a former client provided a glowing BBB recommendation over a year after our engagement concluded. They specifically noted that they had previously undervalued our steady guidance during their growth phase. This acknowledgment has resulted in the client re-engaging us for a significantly expanded scope of services.
Where do you see your company in the future?
Our primary goal is strategic growth, focusing both on the clients we serve and the caliber of employees we recruit. We are fostering an environment where staff are encouraged to take ownership of their work, schedules, and client relationships. We firmly value time away from the office, recognizing that flexible and alternative schedules are highly effective, even in a traditionally 9-to-5 professional environment. Lastly, we want to hire people who truly enjoy accounting and working in small groups within a large firm.
What is the biggest misconception about your industry?
We have been blessed with technology that has eliminated many of the minor mistakes that plagued our business when accounting was performed by hand.
What has been one of your biggest struggle building your business and how did you deal with it?
One of the biggest challenges in building our business has definitely been managing time effectively. In the early stages, I was fully committed to building our network, earning client trust, and nurturing the relationships that help a firm grow. At the same time, I had family responsibilities and personal commitments that were equally important.
Balancing both wasn’t easy, and there were moments when I fell short on one side or the other. What helped was leaning on my business partner and our team. Together, we started creating clearer boundaries, sharing responsibilities, and setting up systems that allowed me to show up fully for both the business and my family.
It’s still working in progress, but I’ve learned that growth doesn’t require doing everything alone—it requires support, structure, and the willingness to continually improve as the company evolves.
What was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?
Like most people, I was influenced by the musical taste of my mother and father. My mother introduced me to the Motown era and disco, while my father exposed me to Latin jazz and the musical genius of Celia Cruz. Ultimately, my own taste truly blossomed when I discovered A Tribe Called Quest. They were the first group that captured my soul, permanently imprinting on my musical identity. Since that discovery, I have remained a life-long fan of their music and associated collaborations.
Any shoutouts you want to make?
I would love to shout out the individuals that have allowed me to pick their brains. Especially the last three people in my life, one was the partner in a local cpa firm, my manager in that same CPA firm and my supervisor in my “first” job after working at a CPA for part of my career. These three women each provided with valuable opportunities to learn, supported me when I made mistakes, allowed me the chance to ask the dumb question and generally made sure that my education on the job was on par for the tasks ahead. The most valuable lesson they taught me was patience and education are two sides of the same coin. You need both of them to be leaders of your department and or your firm. Thank you.
