So nice to meet you! First off, what’s your name? Tell our readers a bit about yourself—where you’re from originally and where you live now.

My name is Linda Lieffers. I’m a Canadian artist originally from Saskatchewan, and I’ve called Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, home for the past 25 years. I began painting in 2018, and what started as a creative pursuit very quickly became the focus of my life. Today, I work primarily in large-scale oils, creating atmospheric, highly detailed paintings that explore light, movement, and depth. Living beside the Sea of Cortez has had an enormous influence on both my life and my work.

Tell us one thing you love about where you live now?

One of the things I love most about living in Cabo is the light. There’s something extraordinary about the way the desert meets the sea here—the intensity of the sun, the color of the water, and the ever-changing atmosphere. After 25 years, I’m still inspired by it, and I think that sense of light and space has naturally found its way into my paintings.

Tell us a little bit more about what your company does and how it started? How does it help your customers?

My business really grew organically around my work as an artist. I began painting in 2018 and, over time, developed a distinctive style and built a collector base both in Mexico and internationally. Today, I create primarily large-scale original oil paintings for private collectors, designers, and luxury residences. For me, it’s about creating more than something beautiful for a wall—I want a painting to completely change the feeling of a space and create an emotional connection that people continue to experience every day.

If someone wants to start a business, what advice would you give them?

Don’t wait until you feel completely ready. Start with what you have, be willing to learn as you go, and don’t be afraid to change direction. Some of the biggest opportunities in my career have come from taking chances and trusting my instincts. I also believe consistency matters enormously—success rarely happens overnight, but small steps taken every day can completely change where you are a few years from now.

What was one feedback from a happy customer/client that you won't forget about?

One of the greatest compliments I’ve received from a collector was that they couldn’t stop looking at the painting—that every time they walked past it, they noticed something different. That stayed with me because it’s exactly what I hope to create. I want my paintings to have a presence that draws you in and continues to reveal itself over time.

Where do you see your company in the future?

I see myself continuing to push the scale and ambition of my work. I’m increasingly drawn to creating large, immersive paintings and cohesive bodies of work that have a strong presence in a space. My goal is to continue building an international collector base while placing my work with respected galleries, designers, and, ultimately, museum and institutional collections. Most importantly, I never want to stop evolving as an artist. I want each new body of work to take me somewhere I haven’t been before.

What is the biggest misconception about your industry?

I think one of the biggest misconceptions is that being an artist is simply about having talent and creating beautiful work. In reality, it takes an enormous amount of discipline, persistence, and willingness to continually learn. There are countless hours behind every finished painting that no one ever sees. You also have to learn the business side—marketing, building relationships, and putting your work out into the world. Talent may open the door, but consistency and perseverance are what allow you to build a career.

What has been one of the biggest struggles in building your business, and how have you dealt with it?

One of my biggest struggles has been learning to trust my own direction. As an artist, there are so many outside opinions about what you should paint, what will sell, and what direction your work should take. I eventually realized that my strongest work happens when I stop trying to anticipate what other people want and follow what genuinely excites me. That shift has given me the confidence to take more risks, evolve my work, and create from a much more authentic place.

Who was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?

Growing up in Saskatchewan in a hockey town, hockey was a huge part of life, so Wayne Gretzky was definitely my favorite athlete. Music has always been important to me as well, and I’ve always loved the Eagles. There’s something timeless about their music—I can still listen to it today and never get tired of it.

Any shoutouts you want to make?

Absolutely—first and foremost, my family. My husband is an incredible support behind the scenes. He builds all of my frames and helps me with everything from invoices to shipping. My youngest daughter paints the edges of my canvases and is my final inspector—she can spot a stray hair or tiny flaw from across the room! My eldest daughter has wonderful business instincts and has helped me tremendously in navigating that side of my career. I’m also incredibly grateful to the designers and galleries who believe in and promote my work, and, of course, to my collectors. Every time someone chooses to bring one of my paintings into their home, I’m reminded how fortunate I am to be able to do what I love.
