Founder Interview
Ashley Merrick
Say yes! Say yes to every opportunity to bring awareness to your brand, whether it be a conference, networking opportunity, or community event.

So nice to meet you! First off, what’s your name? Tell our readers a bit about yourself—where you’re from originally and where you live now.
Ashley Merrick, originally from Fentress County, TN. I currently live in Maryville, TN.
Tell us one thing you love about where you live now?
I love the small town feel of Maryville and being so close to the mountains and lakes.
Tell us a little bit more about what your company does and how it started? How does it help your customers?
United Capping was founded after I experienced breast cancer and used manual cold caps during chemotherapy, successfully keeping about 85% of my hair. I saw firsthand how much hair preservation can help patients feel more like themselves during an incredibly difficult time. I started United Capping to make cold cap therapy more accessible and less overwhelming for others. We provide personalized, hands-on support throughout chemotherapy, handling the caps, dry ice, timing, and post-treatment care so patients can focus on what matters most—fighting cancer while maintaining a sense of normalcy and confidence.
If someone wants to start a business, what advice would you give them?
Say yes! Say yes to every opportunity to bring awareness to your brand, whether it be a conference, networking opportunity, or community event.
What was one feedback from a happy customer/client that you won't forget about?
All of our clients are pleased with the hair care service we provide, but the emotional support is always what I get the most feedback on.
Where do you see your company in the future?
Continuing to grow to other states with the addition of our virtual options. Expanding to not only provide hair care assistance but also patient advocacy.
What is the biggest misconception about your industry?
That trying to save your hair is vain. Most women find losing their hair one of the hardest obstacles to overcome when going through chemotherapy.
What has been one of your biggest struggle building your business and how did you deal with it?
Scaling to other areas. Currently we serve Middle and East TN but are working to get into other markets.
Any shoutouts you want to make?
My team of cappers are the most amazing ladies. Our clients ALWAYS provide feedback as to how caring and supportive they are. I couldn't build this brand without them.
