So nice to meet you! First off, what’s your name? Tell our readers a bit about yourself: where you’re from originally and where you live now.
My name is Casey Carmical, and I’m the founder of 1-FIND SERVICES, a digital marketing agency based in Johnson City, Tennessee. I’m originally from Harlan, Kentucky, and I also spent 11 years living in Japan, which gave me a very different perspective on business, communication, and working with people from different backgrounds.
Today, I work primarily with small and locally owned businesses throughout the Tri-Cities and surrounding areas. I’ve always enjoyed the combination of technology, problem-solving, and helping business owners turn something complicated into something practical that actually produces results.
Tell us one thing you love about where you live now.
One thing I love about Northeast Tennessee is that there’s still a real sense of community here. Johnson City, Greeneville, Kingsport, Bristol, Elizabethton and the surrounding towns all have their own identity, but people still value relationships and doing business with people they know and trust.
That fits the way I like to run my company. I work directly with my clients rather than passing them off to account managers, so being in a region where relationships still matter feels like a natural fit.
Tell us a little more about what your company does and how it started. How does it help your customers?
I started 1-FIND SERVICES in 2020. We help small businesses get found online and turn that visibility into actual customers.
That includes website design, search engine optimization, Google Business Profile optimization, local SEO, online advertising, review generation, and marketing automation. The goal isn’t simply to give someone a nicer-looking website. It’s to build a system that helps generate phone calls, leads, appointments, and revenue.
A lot of small businesses are very good at what they do, but they struggle because the people searching for their services simply don’t find them. That’s the problem I try to solve.
I also intentionally keep the company hands-on. Clients work directly with me instead of going through layers of account managers or outsourced teams. I think that makes it much easier to understand what a business actually needs and to adjust quickly when something isn’t working.
If someone wants to start a business, what advice would you give them?
One of the best things someone can do when starting a business is join a good local networking group. For me, Tri-Cities Business Builders was invaluable, especially for getting comfortable with sales and talking about what I do. The support I have received is a huge part of what allowed me to be successful.
A networking group gives you a place to practice explaining your business, learn how to build relationships, and get more comfortable asking for referrals without everything feeling like a cold sales pitch. You also get to hear how other business owners handle challenges, follow up with prospects, and grow through relationships.
When you’re just starting out, that kind of environment can shorten the learning curve tremendously. You’re not only trying to find customers; you’re learning how to become a business owner.
What is one piece of feedback from a happy customer or client that you won't forget?
The feedback I remember most isn’t necessarily about rankings or website design. It’s when a client tells me that the phone is ringing more or that they can actually see the difference the marketing is making in their business. You can see many of these on my Google Business Profile.
Small business owners put a lot on the line. When someone tells me that the work we’ve done has helped bring in new customers or made their business more stable, that means a lot more to me than a metric on a report.
One of the best compliments I can receive is when a client refers another business owner to me. To me, that says they trust me enough to put their own reputation behind the recommendation.
Where do you see your company in the future?
I want 1-FIND SERVICES to continue becoming one of the most trusted digital marketing companies for small businesses in Northeast Tennessee and the surrounding region.
I’m interested in growth, but I don’t want growth to come at the expense of the hands-on model that makes the company different.
I don’t have a goal of building a huge agency where clients rarely interact with the person actually responsible for their strategy. Instead, I want to keep developing better systems that combine websites, local search, advertising, automation, AI, and customer follow-up so that smaller businesses can use technology that was once available mostly to much larger companies.
What is the biggest misconception about your industry?
One of the biggest misconceptions is that digital marketing is about doing one thing.
A business owner might think, “I need a website,” or “I need SEO,” or “I need Google Ads.” But none of those things operate in isolation.
Someone may find you on Google, visit your website, read your reviews, check your social profiles, call you, miss you, receive a text back, and then decide whether to become a customer. Every part affects the next.
I often tell people that a website, although very important to have, is just the beginning. The real value comes from building a coordinated system that helps a business get discovered, earn trust, and convert that attention into customers.
What has been one of your biggest struggles building your business, and how did you deal with it?
One of the biggest challenges has been learning when to stop doing work simply because I know how to do it and instead focus on the work that creates the most value.
When you start a business, you tend to say yes to almost everything. Over time, you realize that being busy and building a strong company are not necessarily the same thing.
I’ve become much more intentional about the types of services I offer, the businesses I work with, and where I spend my time. I’ve also built systems and automation into the business so repetitive tasks don’t consume time that could be spent solving bigger problems for clients.
That process is still ongoing. I think one of the biggest parts of entrepreneurship is constantly figuring out what deserves your attention and what doesn’t.
What was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?
I absolutely loved New Edition and Bobby Brown growing up. Michael Jackson, too. My tastes are pretty eclectic, so I also enjoy listening to Skid Row, The Eagles, Johnny Cash, NF, Flyleaf, and Skillet. My favorite athletes were Mike Tyson, Michael Jordan, and Walter Payton. Later on, Royce Gracie got me hooked on jiujitsu.
Any shoutouts you want to make?
All of my friends at Tri-Cities Business Builders and in the local chambers, like the Greene County Partnership, which I just joined.
