Hey! So nice to speak with you! Can you tell our readers a little bit more about yourself? Where are you originally from and where do you live now?
Dylan Wolfinger. I was born in New Jersey, adopted at 2 days old, and have lived about an hour outside of Philadelphia my whole life. Although I did purchase a cabin the Poconos that I use when it is not rented out.
Tell us one thing you love about where you live now?
The people and the amount of outdoor activities you can do.
Tell us a little bit more about what your company does and how it started? How does it help your customers?
I was coming to the end of my college career in 2022 with no idea what I wanted to do. I was graduating with a degree in criminal justice and minor in business. So I interned with my friend at a software company just learning how to do backlink exchanges, and how it helped SEO. From there, they moved me to the sister company on the business development side after I graduated.
I wasn't really fulfilled with it, so I started taking clients on the side building backlinks and writing blog posts to help their organic traffic. It started with one client, then it became more and more, so I formed an LLC and started doing legitimate outreach to gain more clients. By summer 2023 I had my full-time job with about 4 solid clients on the side.
I kept hammering outreach and building my client base, each one on a monthly retainer that differed based on services. I had branched out to paid ads, backlinking, content creation, and full blown website design/maintenance.
In Spring of 2024, I left my full time job, and dove into my own marketing company full time. It was scary, but it worked out and to this date I have right around 40 clients that I am working around the clock to make sure their sites are polished and functioning properly, bringing in steady flows of traffic and income.
If someone wants to start a business, what advice will help them?
There is no "right time", don't wait to start it.
What was one feedback from a happy customer/client that you won't forget about?
One customer said to me once that they felt as though they felt like their business website and eCommerce side of things was on autopilot, so they could spend more time with their family.
Where do you see your company in the future?
Within the next 2-3 years I'd like to have over 100 clients, with a small team that I can manage and help each individual person grow.
What is the biggest misconception about your industry?
A lot of people think that SEO is just smoke and mirrors, inflating numbers and charging a ridiculous amount for it. While there are some companies that do that, it is not all of us. We work hard to provide true results.
What has been one of your biggest struggles building your business and how did you deal with it?
Piggybacking off of the misconception, the hardest part has been acquiring clients and proving my worth to so someone who was burned in the past by an SEO company. To combat it, I started out with extremely low rates to build my client base and get my foot in the door, then once I had serious results I have found it easier to get clients.
What was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?
I don't really have a favorite artist, but I was always inspired by former Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger. I thought his story of coming here as an immigrant, training each day, taking classes, winning the Mr. Olympia, building his wealth and then moving into movies and government was the epitome of the American Dream.
Any shoutouts you want to make?
Ivan Escott, my childhood best friend who got me into the software company when I had no direction.
