So nice to meet you! First off, what’s your name? Tell our readers a bit about yourself—where you’re from originally and where you live now.

Thank you so kindly for the opportunity to share. My name is Charissa, but I go by Grace. I'm originally from Denver, moved south to the Springs, and now live in Pueblo West. I like to joke that one day I'll end up in Brazil if I keep moving further south!

Tell us one thing you love about where you live now?

I love the pace of Pueblo West. It's the smallest place I've ever lived, and I truly enjoy the quiet. It's nice to just walk around the neighborhood and hardly see a car, and to know my neighbors pretty well. I see someone I know at almost every store or activity I go to, and that makes me feel like I'm truly part of a community.

Tell us a little bit more about what your company does and how it started? How does it help your customers?

Grace to Organize was founded in 2017 after I realized that I had a gift that was worth sharing and that people were genuinely interested in paying me for. I had done countless organizing projects throughout my entire life, even from childhood, and every job I had was a playground of junk drawers and storage closets to make sense of. My bosses truly loved me for this gift, but it wasn't until I started my business that I realized many more people need my help. They are just overwhelmed with stuff, don't know where to start or what to do, or are just so busy pursuing their own dreams that they need a helping hand to make their home run more smoothly.

After all, home is where we go to unwind, relax with our closest people, and rest and restore for pursuing our dreams. If home isn't peaceful, it's truly hard to make everything else work.

If someone wants to start a business, what advice would you give them?

I would say if you want to start a business, you should balance these two ideas:

1. Make sure that what you choose to do is something you can see yourself doing long term, even when your motivation runs dry. Something about it has to be challenging to you, fun, satisfying or truly worthwhile. You will deal with a lot of frustrating tasks that are just inherent to running a business, and you need the stamina to push through them.

2. Don't overthink it. It took me three months to fill out the form to become an LLC because I was so nervous about doing it wrong, and I laugh about that now. I was waiting for the perfect circumstances, but I was frozen. There are many resources to help people start and continue businesses, so don't let fear of perfection keep you from starting!

What was one feedback from a happy customer/client that you won't forget about?

I can't think of any one particular client who gave me great feedback, because honestly, at this point there have been so many. In fact, it took years of hearing the good feedback over and over to really understand the value of the service we offer. It's so easy to diminish your natural gift because you didn't study for it, you didn't work to learn it, you just have it. But it certainly doesn't make it any less valuable to those you serve!

Where do you see your company in the future?

I truly believe that it is my privilege to use my giftings of organization, and I will in some capacity do it for the rest of my life. I have no concept of how long Grace to Organize will be the container for that, but I am very open-handed with my business. I trust the Lord to guide me, and He truly surprises me at times with the life pivots!

What is the biggest misconception about your industry?

One of the biggest misconceptions about my industry is that we are all perfectionistic, but the truth is that one of the great qualities of organizers is that we are flexible and creative! We have to remain very open-minded in our approach, especially when it comes to others' homes. There's only so much we can control about placement, space allotted, budget, style or their lifestyle. We are constantly adapting and problem-solving to make the best of the circumstances given. It's truly fun, and there's so much about our work that is truly not picture-perfect.

What has been one of your biggest struggle building your business and how did you deal with it?

I would say that the biggest hurdle in building my business has been my own personal mindset, but this has also been my greatest joy in this journey! I have been changed immensely through the years and am amazed at how I am more confident, more mature and more emotionally intelligent. Working with people of all backgrounds and experiences in their most personal spaces has the power to change you in such a beautiful and unique way! They say that travel changes you, and I believe that's true, but working side by side with strangers going through their personal belongings can culture you as well!

What was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?

I am a country girl at heart, and I really loved my Shania Twain as a girl. Really, any '80s or '90s country still has me singing!

Any shoutouts you want to make?

I always love giving a shout-out to Rebecca Flott. She is an incredible human being with the kindest heart. She truly has played a role in my life that is beyond words. She loved me like a mother and has been a source of encouragement in all of my pursuits! I love her!
