My name is Jillian, and I was born and raised in Jamaica. I'm a certified wedding and event planner and currently live in Dunnellon, Florida.

Tell us one thing you love about where you live now.

Dunnellon is a tranquil and modest-sized community. The picturesque Rainbow Springs River attracted me to this area, which I greatly appreciate.

Tell us a little more about what your company does and how it started. How does it help your customers?

Weddings in Paradise focuses on creating exceptional weddings and events, having launched in 2013. Aware of the challenges couples encounter during wedding planning, we chose to provide tailored services that meet their unique needs. Our aim is to connect couples with professional vendors who resonate with their vision and personality. By ensuring a seamless planning experience, we enable couples to unwind and cherish moments with their loved ones while we manage all vendor coordination, venue details, and contractual obligations associated with the planning process.

If someone wants to start a business, what advice would you give them?

For individuals considering launching a business, my recommendation is to commit their time and resources to its development. While it may take some time to witness returns on that investment, persistence and effort will ultimately lead to long-term rewards.

What is one piece of feedback from a happy customer or client that you won't forget?

One notable piece of client feedback involved a couple facing challenges while planning their destination wedding. They experienced inadequate communication from the venue coordinator, who failed to address their requirements effectively. Once they engaged my services as their planner, their frustrations and anxieties were alleviated.

I envision my company on a global scale, with offices worldwide, delivering exceptional service to clients at a competitive price point.

What is the biggest misconception about your industry?

One of the most significant misunderstandings in my field is the perception that a planner lacks importance. It is often only when individuals face the challenges of organizing an event without the necessary expertise and network that they recognize the true value of having a professional planner by their side. Effective communication with all vendors is essential to ensure alignment; every alteration demands discussions with various stakeholders, resulting in numerous emails and phone calls. Additionally, developing an event layout, visiting the venue for accurate planning, creating a comprehensive timeline, managing the budget to adhere to the couple's financial parameters, and reviewing contracts all require extensive time and effort. This process spans weeks or even months, rather than being a simple one-day task.

What has been one of your biggest struggles building your business, and how did you deal with it?

A common challenge that nearly every startup encounters is the lack of sufficient capital to fund operations. In my case, I had to take on employment opportunities and allocate my earnings toward the business, as I lacked investors.

What was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?

I held a deep admiration for Bob Marley as my preferred artist, while Merlene Ottey emerged as my favored athlete.
