Founder Interview
Milton Putman
Learn the industry that you want to serve. Know the cost of entry to do business in that industry. See how your product/service will be sustainable in that industry. Do not wait…

So nice to meet you! First off, what’s your name? Tell our readers a bit about yourself—where you’re from originally and where you live now.
My name is Milton Putman, Founder and CEO of Complete Dominance Athletics. I’m a Cognitive & Physical Performance Strategist with more than 12 years of experience in fitness, wellness, resilience, youth development, leadership, and professional performance. I’m Detroit-raised and currently based in Detroit, Michigan. My journey has taken me from athletics and personal training into entrepreneurship, speaking, education, corporate wellness, and government contracting. Today, my focus is helping people and organizations strengthen their mental and physical capacity so they can perform at a higher level and prepare for what’s next.
Tell us one thing you love about where you live now.
What I love most about Detroit is the resilience of the people. Detroit teaches you how to keep going, how to rebuild, and how to create opportunity even when circumstances are challenging. That mindset has shaped both me and my business.
Tell us a little more about what your company does and how it started. How does it help your customers?
Complete Dominance Athletics started from my background in fitness and athletic performance. Over time, I realized that physical performance alone was not enough. People were dealing with stress, burnout, lack of focus, low energy, and mental overload, so the company evolved into a cognitive and physical performance business.
Today, CDA works with corporations, schools, universities, recreation departments, government agencies, business owners, and organizations. We provide workshops, keynotes, multi-week programs, CPR/AED training, youth development, resilience training, workplace wellness, strength and conditioning, and cognitive performance development.
Our goal is simple: help people close performance gaps, strengthen resilience, improve focus and energy, and prepare for higher levels of responsibility and growth.
If someone wants to start a business, what advice would you give them?
Learn the industry that you want to serve. Know the cost of entry to do business in that industry. See how your product/service will be sustainable in that industry. Do not wait until everything is perfect. Start with the problem you know how to solve and get close to the people who need that solution. Listen to your customers, stay consistent, and be willing to evolve.
Also, learn how to sell. You can have a great product or service, but if no one knows about it, the business will struggle.
And most importantly, commit your work to Elohim, stay disciplined, and keep moving even when results are slow.
What is one piece of feedback from a happy customer or client that you won't forget?
One of the most meaningful pieces of feedback I’ve received was from a recreation partner who told me how much she appreciated the classes we provided and the value CDA brought to the people she served. What stayed with me was not just that she enjoyed the programming, but that she saw the impact and encouraged me to continue bringing my services to youth and older adults.
That reminded me that the work is bigger than a contract. It is about creating experiences that people remember and helping organizations serve their communities better.
Where do you see your company in the future?
I see CDA becoming a nationally recognized cognitive and physical performance company serving corporations, schools, government agencies, military organizations, universities, and professional associations.
My goal is to build a company that can scale beyond me personally delivering every service. I want to develop a strong team of instructors, sales professionals, administrators, and proposal specialists so CDA can operate in multiple markets while I focus on strategic partnerships, speaking, business development, and expanding our impact. We want to help communities create microeconomies.
What is the biggest misconception about your industry?
One of the biggest misconceptions is that wellness is just fitness.
People often think wellness means working out, losing weight, or offering a gym membership. But true performance involves cognitive health, stress management, recovery, resilience, focus, energy, emotional regulation, and physical health working together.
You cannot separate the mind from the body and expect sustainable performance.
What has been one of your biggest struggles building your business, and how did you deal with it?
One of my biggest struggles has been staying consistent through periods where I was putting in a lot of work but not seeing immediate results.
There were times when opportunities fell through, contracts slowed down, and I questioned whether I was moving in the right direction. I dealt with it by continuing to develop myself, joining business cohorts, building stronger relationships, improving my services, learning government contracting, and becoming more intentional about my sales process.
My faith also became stronger during that period. I learned that setbacks can either discourage you or develop you.
What was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?
My favorite music artist is Stevie Wonder, and my favorite athlete is LeBron James.
Any shoutouts you want to make?
I want to give a shoutout first and foremost to Elohim, Yahshua my Lord and Savior, and the Holy Spirit. To everyone who has supported me throughout this journey: my family, mentors, business cohorts, clients, community partners, and the organizations that gave CDA an opportunity to serve.
I also want to recognize the people who challenged me, opened doors, gave advice, and helped me see the value of what we were building. Every relationship has played a part in the growth of Complete Dominance Athletics.
Most importantly, I give glory to Elohim for giving me the strength, wisdom, and opportunity to continue building.
