So nice to meet you! First off, what’s your name? Tell our readers a bit about yourself—where you’re from originally and where you live now.

Hello, my name is Angie Stewart. I’ve lived right here in Sanger, Texas, for over 40 years, where I raised my four wonderful children—two boys and two girls. In the last 4 years, I got the ultimate promotion to Grandma to two precious grandsons!

I am the owner and operator of Dallas Placenta Encapsulation. I have spent over 30 years working in the birth community as a certified birth doula, postpartum doula, and placenta encapsulation specialist. My life’s work is helping families navigate pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with confidence, healing, and peace.

Tell us one thing you love about where you live now.

I’ve always been a deeply sentimental person, and for me, the absolute best part of Sanger is its people. I’ve known some of my neighbors for 40 years now. Even as our community grows, it manages to hold onto that rare, irreplaceable small-town charm. What I love most is how the ‘old-timers’ unite: we celebrate the good times together and lift each other up through tragedy. It gives you this beautiful sense of security, knowing that come rain or shine, no matter the situation, someone will always have your back.

Tell us a little more about what your company does and how it started. How does it help your customers?

My journey with Dallas Placenta Encapsulation began in 2016 when I learned the craft from my friend and local midwife, Mercy, who owned the business at the time. Inspired by that experience, I launched Denton County Placenta Encapsulation that same year.

In 2022, when the company’s third owner planned a move to Arkansas, she looked for a successor who shared her deep passion for supporting birthing families. I stepped in to help manage operations and process placentas while finalizing the acquisition. In January 2024, I officially took ownership of Dallas Placenta Encapsulation.

Postpartum care is never a one-size-fits-all experience. Since taking ownership, my focus has been on providing tailored, compassionate support to families both locally and nationwide. To meet diverse needs, I expanded our traditional product line, which included capsules, tinctures, and salves, to feature innovative options like lactation cookies, whipped body butter, small easy-to-swallow capsules, flavored capsules, placenta-infused chocolates, and placenta-infused gummies. Our proudest milestone to date is expanding to nationwide shipping, allowing us to bring customized postpartum healing to mothers across the country.

If someone wants to start a business, what advice would you give them?

If you want to launch a business catering to postpartum mothers, compassion must be your foundation. Looking back at all the wonderful families I’ve supported over the years, I always return to my own experience of motherhood: sometimes, a new mom just needs a loving touch and a safe space.

In this line of work, you are invited into incredibly intimate family milestones. You get to share the sheer joy of a surprise birth, celebrate the baby’s birth weight, and connect deeply with different family members. As a placenta encapsulation specialist, the standout moments are endless. I’ve been met with overwhelming joy and relief by fathers, and I’ve watched grandparents radiate pride seeing the legacy of their child live on in a grandbaby. Even the aunts and uncles bring this beautiful energy for their siblings. There are simply too many precious moments to list, but each one reminds me why this work matters.

What is one piece of feedback from a happy customer or client that you won't forget?

Honestly, there are too many special moments to list because every single family holds a unique place in my heart. But if I had to choose what stands out the most, it’s hearing from the mothers. Knowing that these capsules truly helped them navigate their postpartum journey is incredibly rewarding. I constantly receive feedback from moms who notice a significant boost in their energy levels or an increase in their milk production. It’s also deeply moving to hear from the partners; seeing how happy and relieved they are to watch the mother thrive is the ultimate validation of this work.

Where do you see your company in the future?

I want to grow this company so we can reach and support as many families as possible. The postpartum period is a monumental transition, and placenta services offer incredible benefits that I believe every interested mother deserves to experience. Looking ahead, my hope is that health insurance providers will recognize the value of these services and offer coverage, validating just how crucial proper postpartum healing and maternal care truly are.

What is the biggest misconception about your industry?

We need to change the narrative around placenta encapsulation, starting in the delivery room. Many doctors and nurses mistakenly tell moms that Group B Strep or meconium disqualifies them from encapsulating. In reality, these are simply scenarios that require expert handling, and I have strict safety measures in place to ensure every placenta is prepared safely.

When this arises, I try to educate healthcare providers on what we actually do. To those who dismiss the practice or call it ‘cannibalism,’ I point to the science of postpartum healing. The placenta is packed with nutrients meant to help the mother recover. Almost every mammal in nature does this instinctively because the benefits are undeniable, and those benefits extend to human mothers, too.

What has been one of your biggest struggles building your business, and how did you deal with it?

For the most part, building this business has been an incredibly smooth journey, largely thanks to the amazing families I’ve had the honor of serving over the years. If I had to name my biggest obstacle, it would be navigating the learning curve that comes with creating highly customized products. Every mother’s healing journey is unique, and tailoring formulas to meet those individual needs takes time. For instance, people assume making whipped body butter is simple, but achieving the perfect consistency requires precise measurements and patience. I’ve faced a similar learning curve in perfecting my chocolates and gummies.

Ultimately, my priority is ensuring every mom receives the personalized attention she deserves for a successful postpartum recovery. I am deeply grateful to the women who have shared their unique needs with me; they have allowed me to broaden my selection and elevate the level of care I provide.

What was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?

My passions really lie in music and sports, especially football. When it comes to music, my taste is incredibly eclectic, so it’s impossible to pick just one artist. There are so many brilliant musicians out there; I listen to everyone from Fleetwood Mac, Journey, and the Beatles to Adele, George Strait, and Alicia Keys. On the sports side, being from Texas, the Cowboys will always have my heart. But as I’ve grown older, my appreciation for the game has expanded. I find myself rooting for teams like the Eagles, Commanders, Bengals, and Saints based on specific players, coaches, or quarterbacks. And when baseball season rolls around, I’m always backing the Texas Rangers.

Any shoutouts you want to make?

First and foremost, I wouldn’t be the person I am today without God. He has guided my path and blessed my life immensely, and I am forever grateful.

Next, I want to thank the amazing families I’ve had the honor of working with over the last 30 years. They have taught me so much about how to love on mothers, hold space for them, and support them in whatever way they need. Every single family has helped shape who I am today.

I also owe so much to my own family: my children, my mom, my sisters, and my nieces. Dallas Placenta Encapsulation is truly a family business. I might be the face of the company and the one processing the placentas, but my family is always behind the scenes, stepping in to pick up placentas while I’m finishing one or supporting me whenever I’m launching something new.

Finally, I want to thank the incredible mentors who shaped my journey: my midwives and dear friends, Betty Fairman Hoffman, CNM, Jean Sala Smith, CNM, and Mercy Eizenga, LM, CPM. They have provided endless encouragement, answered my questions, and taught me so much about birthing women. I also must credit Dr. Frederick Cummings, OBGYN, who sparked my passion for birth when I was a young lady. He delivered one of my children, mentored me during my time as a birth doula, and modeled what it truly means to hold space for a birthing family. He has been a lifelong voice for women through all stages of reproductive life, and it has been an absolute honor getting to learn from him.

Where can our readers learn more about you and your company?

If you want to see what I’m all about, my website is the perfect place to start. I’m also super active on three social media platforms, so there are plenty of ways to see what I am up to. I know business doesn’t sleep, which is why my phone line is open 24/7 for anyone who would prefer a person-to-person conversation, and for same-day clients that are local or across the country.
