Tell us a little bit more about what your company does and how it started? How does it help your customers?

Cadalawn Health & Wellness Clinic is a Direct Primary Care (DPC) clinic located in Houston, Texas. We provide affordable, patient-centered healthcare for individuals and families ages seven and older. Our services include primary care, wellness visits, chronic disease management, telehealth services, women's health, hormone replacement therapy, IV therapy, and emotional wellness coaching.

The clinic was born from my experience as a nurse and nurse practitioner for more than twenty years. Throughout my career, I noticed that many health problems were connected to stress, anxiety, depression, and difficult life circumstances. Patients often needed more time, support, and education than traditional healthcare settings allowed.

I started Cadalawn because I wanted to create a place where patients are treated as people, not numbers. Our goal is to provide compassionate, faith-informed healthcare that addresses the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—while keeping care affordable and accessible.

If someone wants to start a business, what advice will help them?

My biggest advice is to do your homework, prepare thoroughly, and be realistic about finances.

One lesson I learned quickly is that the amount of money you think you need to start a business is usually not the amount you actually need. There are always unexpected expenses, delays, and costs that arise along the way. Build a financial cushion whenever possible and plan for more than your initial estimates.

I would also encourage entrepreneurs to spend significant time finding the right location for their business. The right location can have a tremendous impact on visibility, accessibility, customer growth, and long-term success. Don't rush that decision.

Another important lesson is understanding that you can do everything right—work hard, provide excellent service, treat people well, and still struggle, especially in the early stages. Many people assume that if they are doing good work, success will happen immediately. In reality, building trust, awareness, and a customer base takes time.

One of the greatest lessons entrepreneurship has taught me is patience. I am learning that growth often happens more slowly than we expect. There have been moments when I questioned whether I was making progress, but I've learned the importance of encouraging myself, staying focused on the vision, and continuing to move forward even when results aren't immediately visible.

Most importantly, start with a purpose that is bigger than money. When challenges come—and they will—your purpose is what will keep you going when things get difficult.

"Success is not always about moving fast; sometimes it's about having the courage to keep moving forward."

What was one feedback from a happy customer/client that you won't forget about?

One experience that has stayed with me involved a patient who came to the clinic struggling with anxiety, depression, and the challenges that often accompany those conditions. He was seeking medication management because his symptoms were not well controlled.

As we talked, it became clear that while medication was important, he was also looking for a more comprehensive approach to managing his health. As a Christian man, it was important to him that his care focused on total wholeness—not just taking medication, but learning how to manage his condition as a whole person.

What began as a medical visit became a meaningful conversation about practical strategies, personal goals, and overall well-being. At the end of the visit, he expressed how relieved he felt to be heard and understood beyond his symptoms.

He has continued to return to the clinic and has referred others, which has been incredibly rewarding. That experience reminded me why I started Cadalawn Health & Wellness Clinic. Sometimes people need more than a prescription—they need time, attention, and a healthcare provider who is willing to see the whole person. Our model allows us to provide that kind of personalized care, and that is something I never want to lose as we grow.

Where do you see your company in the future?

I see Cadalawn Health & Wellness Clinic growing into a trusted healthcare and wellness organization serving multiple communities throughout the Houston area.

Our immediate goals include expanding primary care services, growing our telehealth program, and increasing access to hormone replacement therapy, IV wellness services, and emotional wellness coaching.

Long-term, I envision additional clinic locations, a larger team of healthcare professionals, and expanded wellness programs that focus on prevention, mental health, and healthy living.

Beyond the clinic, my dream is to establish a faith-based wellness and retreat center where people struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, and life challenges can find support, coaching, education, and hope.

What is the biggest misconception about your industry?

One of the biggest misconceptions is that healthcare must be complicated and expensive to be effective.

Many people assume that insurance is the only way to access quality healthcare. While insurance has an important role, it often creates barriers between providers and patients through administrative requirements, prior authorizations, and limited appointment times.

The Direct Primary Care (DPC) model removes many of those barriers. Patients pay a transparent fee for services and receive more personalized care, longer visits, easier access to their provider, and predictable pricing.

The challenge is that many people have never heard of the DPC model. Educating patients about an alternative approach to healthcare has been one of the industry's biggest opportunities and challenges. We spend a lot of time helping people understand that healthcare can be affordable, transparent, and relationship-based without the frustrations often associated with traditional insurance-driven systems.

What has been one of your biggest struggles building your business and how did you deal with it?

One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to effectively market the business and manage finances while operating with limited resources. As healthcare providers, we are trained to care for patients, but many of us are not formally trained in business operations, marketing, or financial management.

Even now, there are times when resources are limited, and every dollar must be carefully evaluated. This is not a challenge that simply disappears; it is an ongoing part of building and growing a small business. It requires constant planning, prioritizing, and making thoughtful decisions about where to invest time and money.

I have learned to focus on what is most important, be intentional with spending, and look for creative ways to reach the community without overspending. I continue to educate myself on business management, seek guidance from experienced business owners, and remain open to adjusting strategies when something is not producing the desired results.

Perhaps the most important lesson has been understanding that growth takes time. Building a business requires resilience, patience, and faith. There are seasons when progress feels slow, but I have learned to celebrate small victories, stay committed to the vision, and keep moving forward even when the outcome is not immediately visible. Every challenge has become an opportunity to learn, improve, and build a stronger foundation for the future.

Any shoutouts you want to make?

Absolutely.

First, I want to thank God for His faithfulness, patience, guidance, and strength throughout this journey. There were many moments when things felt uncertain, but God's grace carried me through every challenge.

I also want to thank my family for believing in me, encouraging me, and supporting my vision even during difficult seasons.

Finally, I would like to recognize the friends, colleagues, mentors, and supporters who encouraged me when the dream was still just an idea. Their advice, prayers, and confidence in me made a tremendous difference, and I am deeply grateful for each of them.
