Dr. Oscar Cornelio

My advice would be to start with a clear purpose and a genuine desire to solve a problem that matters to people.

So nice to meet you! First off, what’s your name? Tell our readers a bit about yourself—where you’re from originally and where you live now.

My name is Dr. Oscar Cornelio. I'm a Peruvian-born physician, health educator, and speaker currently based in the United States.

My professional journey has taken me from medical school in Lima, Peru, to postgraduate training in Family Medicine and Integrative Medicine in the United States, along with a Master of Science degree from Boston University.

Over the years, my perspective on health has evolved. I came to understand that helping people live healthier lives requires much more than sharing medical information. It requires education, meaningful connections, and ongoing support to turn knowledge into sustainable habits.

Today, my work focuses on healthy longevity, lifestyle medicine, and health education. Through my YouTube channel, podcast, speaking engagements, and the development of my digital community, Vive Más y Mejor (Live Longer and Better), I aim to make evidence-based health information practical, accessible, and relevant to everyday life.

My mission is simple: to help people not only live longer, but live better.

Tell us one thing you love about where you live now.

One of the things I love most about living in North Carolina is the connection with nature. The beautiful green spaces, trails, lakes, and changing seasons offer wonderful opportunities to stay active, reflect, and enjoy the outdoors.

I particularly enjoy running, cycling, and walking in nature. These moments remind me that health is not just about preventing disease or living longer, but also about being present and enjoying the life we have today.

North Carolina has given me a wonderful environment to embrace that philosophy, both personally and professionally.

Tell us a little more about what your company does and how it started. How does it help your customers?

My work today focuses on health education, healthy longevity, and helping people turn scientific knowledge into sustainable lifestyle changes.

The inspiration behind my project, Vive Más y Mejor (Live Longer and Better), came from a realization during my years working in medicine: knowing what to do to improve our health is often not enough. Many people understand the importance of eating well, staying physically active, managing stress, and getting enough sleep, yet struggle to maintain these habits over time.

I began asking myself a simple question: What if we could extend the support people receive beyond a single medical appointment and create an environment where learning, encouragement, and community become part of everyday life?

That question became the foundation of Vive Más y Mejor, a developing digital health education community designed to help people build healthier, more sustainable lifestyles.

Through educational videos, my YouTube channel, the Salud y Felicidad Plena podcast, speaking engagements, and community-based learning initiatives, I share evidence-based information about lifestyle medicine, healthy aging, nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, and meaningful social connections.

My goal is not simply to provide more information. It is to make that information understandable, practical, and easier to apply consistently.

Ultimately, I believe healthy longevity is not only about adding years to life. It is about helping people experience those years with greater vitality, purpose, independence, and connection.

That is the vision behind everything I am building.

If someone wants to start a business, what advice would you give them?

My advice would be to start with a clear purpose and a genuine desire to solve a problem that matters to people.

Before asking how successful your business could become, ask yourself: Who am I trying to help, and how can I make a meaningful difference in their lives?

I also believe it's important to start before everything feels perfect. Many people spend years waiting for the right moment, the right resources, or the perfect plan. But some of the most valuable lessons come from taking action, listening, making mistakes, and adjusting along the way.

Building something meaningful requires patience, discipline, and resilience. There will be setbacks, uncertainty, and moments when progress feels slow. What matters is staying connected to your purpose while remaining flexible enough to learn and evolve.

One lesson I've learned throughout my professional journey is that success is not simply about reaching a destination. It's also about who you become, the relationships you build, and the positive impact you create along the way.

Start with purpose, take consistent action, and never stop learning.

What is one piece of feedback from a happy customer or client that you won't forget?

Some of the most meaningful feedback I've received throughout my professional journey has come from patients who discovered that improving their health was not just about following medical recommendations, but about feeling understood, supported, and empowered to make changes.

During my experience working with Spanish-speaking Latino patients through integrative group medical visits, I witnessed how powerful it could be when people had the opportunity to share their experiences, learn together, and support one another.

What has stayed with me most is seeing people begin to believe in their own ability to make positive changes, especially after struggling with their health for years.

Those experiences helped shape a belief that continues to guide my work today: people need more than information. They need connection, encouragement, and practical tools to sustain change.

That is one of the reasons I'm building Vive Más y Mejor, a digital health education community where learning and human connection can come together to support healthier lives.

Where do you see your company in the future?

My vision is to build Vive Más y Mejor (Live Longer and Better) into a trusted international resource for healthy longevity, lifestyle medicine, and evidence-based health education.

I envision a place where Spanish-speaking people in the United States, Latin America, Europe, and anywhere in the world can access reliable scientific information and, more importantly, learn how to apply that knowledge in their everyday lives.

But I want to go beyond simply sharing information. My goal is to build a supportive community where people can connect, learn from one another, and find the practical tools and encouragement they need to make sustainable lifestyle changes.

I believe one of the greatest challenges in healthcare today is not simply knowing what works, but helping people implement those changes consistently over time.

Ultimately, I want Vive Más y Mejor to become more than an educational platform. I envision it as a global community that brings together science, practical guidance, and human connection to help people live longer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.

What is the biggest misconception about your industry?

One of the biggest misconceptions about healthy longevity is that living longer and healthier requires expensive treatments, sophisticated technology, or the latest medical breakthroughs.

While scientific and technological advances certainly have an important role, decades of research have shown that many of the most powerful opportunities to improve long-term health are found in our everyday habits.

A great example is strength training. Many people still associate building muscle primarily with physical appearance or bodybuilding. But skeletal muscle is much more than something that makes us look fit. It is a vital metabolic tissue that plays an important role in glucose regulation, insulin sensitivity, physical function, and healthy aging.

Regular strength training can improve metabolic health, support weight management, and help reduce important cardiometabolic risk factors. Perhaps even more importantly, especially as we grow older, maintaining muscle strength helps us preserve mobility, independence, and the ability to enjoy everyday life.

We should not think of building muscle simply as a way to look better, but as an investment in our future health and quality of life.

There is another misconception I believe is equally important: that providing people with more health information is enough to change their behavior.

In reality, knowing what to do and consistently doing it are two very different things.

That is why I believe the future of lifestyle medicine and healthy longevity must go beyond education alone. We need to help people translate scientific evidence into practical, sustainable changes, supported by encouragement, connection, and community.

Ultimately, healthy longevity is not simply about adding years to life. It is about adding health, strength, independence, purpose, and quality to those years.

What has been one of your biggest struggles building your business, and how did you deal with it?

One of my biggest challenges has been transitioning from a traditional medical career to building an educational platform and digital community focused on healthy longevity.

As a physician, I spent years developing clinical knowledge and learning how to help patients. But building something beyond the traditional healthcare setting required an entirely different set of skills.

I had to learn about digital communication, content creation, technology, entrepreneurship, and, perhaps most importantly, how to connect with people outside the clinical environment.

There were moments of uncertainty, setbacks, and times when progress felt much slower than I had expected.

What helped me move forward was remembering why I started. I wanted to make reliable health information more accessible and help people turn scientific knowledge into meaningful, sustainable lifestyle changes.

I also learned to embrace an important principle: progress doesn't require perfection, but it does require consistency.

Instead of waiting until everything was ready, I began taking small steps, learning from mistakes, listening to my audience, and gradually improving the way I communicate and deliver value.

Today, I see those challenges not simply as obstacles, but as an essential part of building something meaningful.

The experience has reminded me that resilience, patience, and a clear sense of purpose are just as important in entrepreneurship as they are in life.

Who was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?

Growing up in Peru, music and sports were always an important part of my life.

One of my favorite musicians was Pedro Suárez Vértiz, a beloved Peruvian rock singer and songwriter whose music was full of energy, authenticity, and unforgettable lyrics. His songs were part of my youth, and I still listen to them today. In fact, I loved rock music so much that I was even part of a rock band when I was younger!

I also grew up enjoying the music of Luis Enrique, the Nicaraguan singer known as "The Prince of Salsa." His music always brought joy, rhythm, and positive energy into my life.

As for sports, I've always loved soccer. One of the athletes I admired most during my younger years was Ronaldinho Gaúcho, the legendary Brazilian soccer player. Watching him play was like watching an artist at work. His creativity, extraordinary talent, and contagious smile transformed soccer into something more than a sport. He made it an expression of joy.

What I admired most about Ronaldinho was not just his ability, but the happiness he brought to the game.

Looking back, these artists and athletes remind me of something I deeply believe in today: life is not only about achieving goals, but also about finding joy and meaning along the way.

Any shoutouts you want to make?

Absolutely! I'd like to express my gratitude to the mentors, colleagues, friends, and loved ones who have supported and inspired me throughout my personal and professional journey. Above all, a very special thank you to my wife and daughters. They are my greatest inspiration and the reason I keep moving forward, growing, and pursuing my dreams.

I'm especially grateful to the many people I've had the privilege of learning from throughout my medical career, both in Peru and the United States. Their dedication, knowledge, and humanity have profoundly influenced the way I understand health and the importance of caring for others.

I also want to thank everyone who follows my educational content, listens to my podcast, and is becoming part of the Vive Más y Mejor community. Your curiosity, encouragement, and willingness to make positive changes inspire me to keep learning, creating, and sharing.

And finally, a special thank you to everyone who believes that living longer should also mean living better.

As I often say, "Living longer is a privilege, but living today is the greatest gift."
