So nice to meet you! First off, what’s your name? Tell our readers a bit about yourself—where you’re from originally and where you live now.
My name is Jeremy Lara. I am the CEO of Baja Roofing Inc., along with my cousin Joseph, who is our VP. We operate out of Los Angeles, California. Both Joseph and I have been roofing since before we even had a choice. We were literally on roofs as kids. My grandfather started his own company, and roofing has been in our blood ever since.
I moved around a bit as a kid, but I spent most of my life in Pico Rivera, California. I currently live in Los Angeles, and our company operates throughout both Los Angeles and Orange County.
Tell us one thing you love about where you live now?
The culture where I live is unmatched. There are not only fun events happening every day, but the melting pot of my city also brings out some of the best food and most creative experiences.
Tell us a little bit more about what 1099Workers and how it started? How does it help your customers?
We are a roofing company specializing in HOA and commercial roofing. Our clients love our seamless process and relationship-focused approach. We can genuinely call many of our clients friends, and that is a hard thing to achieve in this industry.
If someone wants to start a business, what advice will help them?
Get a mentor. It can help you skip years of mistakes and avoid wasting thousands of dollars trying to reinvent the wheel.
What was one feedback from a happy customer/client that you won't forget about?
There are so many, it’s hard to choose just one. However, when a customer once told her child that they should follow our journey so they could learn how to operate a business, that really stuck with me.
Where do you see your company in the future?
I see this company thriving with an unmatched culture and a clear career path for our team.
What is the biggest misconception about your industry?
The biggest misconception is that every roofing company can provide the same service. Every company has its own niche, and it’s important to choose the one that best suits not only your needs but also your personal expectations and values.
What has been one of your biggest struggle building your business and how did you deal with it?
My biggest struggle has been creating predictable systems across each division to track progress and establish goals that make an actual impact on the business.
I deal with it by limiting distractions and focusing on being the best leader I can be for my team. This allows me to concentrate on what will move the needle and train my team on how to achieve our goals.
Who was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?
I didn’t have one favorite artist or athlete. It always depended on my mood, and I didn’t really idolize athletes growing up.
Any shoutouts you want to make?
I want to give a huge shoutout to the entire Baja Roofing team. The company would be nothing without their hard work and continuous efforts to better themselves and the company.
