Founder Interview
Dr. Tobi Jeurink
Surround yourself with good mentors in different aspects of the business so you can have people to go to with questions. You are not going to always do things the same way, but…

So nice to meet you! First off, what’s your name? Tell our readers a bit about yourself—where you’re from originally and where you live now.
I grew up in a small town in northeastern Colorado. My office is now located in Gardner, Kansas, just outside of Kansas City.
Tell us one thing you love about where you live now.
There are many parks and trails near where I live and practice.
Tell us a little more about what your company does and how it started. How does it help your customers?
Root Function Health grew out of my own health journey and a desire to help people get more out of life. I experienced pain beginning in childhood and was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis and Hashimoto’s in my teens. Chiropractic care made a meaningful difference for me, and studying nutrition and becoming a chiropractic internist helped me better understand the factors affecting my health. Today, I often tell patients I feel better in my 50s than I did in my 20s.
I opened Jeurink Family Chiropractic and Wellness Center in 2010. As the practice evolved, Root Function Health became a name that better reflected what we do: investigate what is contributing to a person’s symptoms and help improve how their body functions.
We combine chiropractic care, functional nutrition, personalized lab testing, and recovery therapies to help patients address pain, improve mobility, and better understand their health. We take time to listen, ask deeper questions, and connect a patient’s history with appropriate testing. As I like to say, “We test so you don’t have to guess.”
Our patients range from children to older adults, including competitive athletes and people who simply want the energy and mobility to enjoy their day. My goal is to give each person a clear, practical plan and the tools to take an active role in their health—whether that means returning to running, playing with their grandchildren, or feeling more like themselves again.
If someone wants to start a business, what advice would you give them?
Surround yourself with good mentors in different aspects of the business so you can have people to go to with questions. You are not going to always do things the same way, but having a sounding board and different views helps keep you centered.
What is one piece of feedback from a happy customer or client that you won't forget?
Dr. Tobi has such a great approach to helping you understand your unique health journey. She explains the results from tests along with why she makes certain suggestions so that you can learn more about yourself and be empowered to make decisions from a place of knowledge.
Where do you see your company in the future?
We plan to continue to offer reasonably priced, high-quality functional health services online and in person to help people live their best lives.
What is the biggest misconception about your industry?
That healthcare has to be expensive. The more you are willing to take ownership of your own health, the less costly it is.
What has been one of your biggest struggles building your business, and how did you deal with it?
I'm not an extrovert, so self-promotion is difficult. I focused on creating individual relationships and referrals.
Who was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?
Hmm, too many to count. Guess I'd have to say Pat Benatar and Jerry Rice.
