Hey! So nice to speak with you! Can you tell our readers a little bit more about yourself? Where are you originally from and where do you live now?

My name is Kayla Ballweg, and I am a nurse practitioner and owner of Restored Vitality Care & Wellness. I was born and raised in Frontenac, KS and have called Olathe, KS home for the past 19 years.

After graduating from Pittsburg State University nursing school in 2007, I moved to the Kansas City area to begin my career in healthcare. I later earned my Master of Science in Nursing from Research College of Nursing in 2013 and spent 13 years working as a nurse practitioner in urgent care.

Throughout my career, I developed a passion for creating a more personalized and patient-centered healthcare experience. In addition to practicing medicine, I also owned an aesthetics company for three years, which has since become part of Restored Vitality Care & Wellness. Today, my focus is helping patients improve their overall health, confidence, and quality of life through a comprehensive approach to wellness and preventative care.

Tell us a little bit more about what your company does and how it started? How does it help your customers?

Restored Vitality Care & Wellness is a concierge-style medical practice that operates without insurance, allowing us to provide affordable, patient-centered care without the hassles of deductibles, hidden fees, or insurance-driven restrictions. The practice is owned and operated by experienced family nurse practitioners who are passionate about changing the way healthcare is delivered.

We offer a wide range of services including primary care, urgent care, aesthetics, IV infusions, hormone optimization, peptide therapy, weight loss management, injections, mental health services, and more — all in one convenient location.

Our goal is to make healthcare more accessible, personalized, and efficient. Patients benefit from easy scheduling, quick appointments, minimal to no wait times, direct access to providers, transparent pricing, and care that is truly focused on their individual needs rather than insurance requirements. We wanted to create a practice where patients feel heard, valued, and cared for while still keeping healthcare affordable and convenient.

If someone wants to start a business, what advice will help them?

My biggest advice to anyone wanting to start a business is to be willing to take risks, stay consistent, and truly believe in your vision — even during the difficult moments. Starting a business is rewarding, but it also requires a tremendous amount of hard work, sacrifice, and persistence.

I also believe it’s important to build something you are genuinely passionate about. When you care deeply about what you do and the people you serve, that passion naturally translates into better service and stronger relationships with your clients or patients.

Another important lesson is to not be afraid to do things differently. In healthcare especially, we saw a need for more accessible, patient-centered care without the frustrations that often come with traditional insurance-based medicine. Taking the leap to create a concierge-style practice allowed us to provide care in a way that aligned with our values and the needs of our community.

Lastly, surround yourself with a strong support system and don’t hesitate to ask questions or learn from others who have experience. No business owner has all the answers, and being adaptable and open to growth is key to long-term success.

What was one feedback from a happy customer/client that you won't forget about?

One piece of feedback that has stayed with us was from a patient who told us they finally felt “heard” for the first time in healthcare. They shared that they were used to feeling rushed through appointments and dismissed in traditional medical settings, but at our practice they felt genuinely listened to and cared for as a person, not just another patient on a schedule.

That feedback meant a great deal to us because it reflects exactly why we started Restored Vitality Care & Wellness. Our goal has always been to create a practice where patients feel comfortable, supported, and involved in their healthcare decisions. Knowing that patients feel valued and respected reminds us why we are so passionate about what we do every day.

Where do you see your company in the future?

We see the future of Restored Vitality Care & Wellness continuing to grow as a patient-centered practice that offers accessible, affordable, and personalized healthcare to our community. Our goal is to continue expanding our services while maintaining the same level of compassion, convenience, and quality care that our patients value.

As healthcare continues to evolve, we believe more patients are looking for a model that provides direct access to providers, transparent pricing, and care that focuses on prevention and overall wellness rather than simply treating illness. We hope to continue being a part of that positive change in healthcare.

In the future, we would love to expand our reach, add additional providers and services, and continue creating a welcoming environment where patients feel heard, respected, and cared for. Most importantly, we want to continue building lasting relationships with our patients and helping them achieve better overall health and vitality.

What is the biggest misconception about your industry?

One of the biggest misconceptions about the healthcare industry — especially concierge and wellness-based practices — is that patients assume it is unaffordable or only designed for luxury care. In reality, our goal is the opposite: to make healthcare more transparent, accessible, convenient, and patient-focused.

Many people are frustrated with long wait times, rushed appointments, difficulty accessing providers, and unexpected costs associated with traditional insurance-based healthcare. By operating outside of insurance, we are able to offer straightforward pricing, longer appointment times, easier access to providers, and more personalized care without many of the barriers patients commonly experience.

Another misconception is that wellness and preventative care are “extra” services rather than important parts of overall health. Preventative medicine, hormone optimization, weight management, mental health support, and lifestyle-focused care can have a major impact on long-term health outcomes and quality of life. We believe healthcare should focus not only on treating illness, but also on helping patients feel their best and stay healthy long term.

What has been one of your biggest struggles building your business and how did you deal with it?

One of the biggest challenges in building our business has been increasing community awareness and helping people learn who we are as a practice. As a newer concierge-style medical clinic, many patients are unfamiliar with the concept of direct-pay healthcare and the benefits it can provide compared to traditional healthcare models.

Building trust and getting our name out into the community takes time, consistency, and relationship-building. We have focused heavily on patient experience, word-of-mouth referrals, community involvement, social media outreach, and providing accessible, high-quality care that encourages patients to share their positive experiences with others.

We’ve learned that growth does not happen overnight, and patience and consistency are extremely important when building a business. Staying true to our mission of providing compassionate, patient-centered care has helped us continue growing and reaching more people in our community.

Any shoutouts you want to make?

We would absolutely like to give a huge shoutout to our family, friends, patients, and the local community for all of their support throughout this journey. Starting and growing a business takes an incredible amount of encouragement, trust, and teamwork, and we truly could not have done it without the people who believed in us from the beginning.

We are especially grateful to our patients and community for trusting us with their healthcare needs and continuing to support our vision for more accessible, patient-centered care. Watching the practice grow through word-of-mouth referrals and community support has been incredibly rewarding.

We also want to recognize our families and friends who have supported us behind the scenes through the long hours, challenges, and sacrifices that come with building a business. Their encouragement and belief in us have meant everything.
