So nice to meet you! First off, what’s your name? Tell our readers a bit about yourself—where you’re from originally and where you live now.

Hi, I'm Shannon Scott, Real Estate Agent and Owner of Creative Grace Homes, LLC. Born in Colorado, I live and work in Downtown Littleton, one of my favorite places on earth.

My whole professional life has lived inside conversations about money. I started in bookkeeping and accounts payable, went back to school at MSU Denver as a non-traditional student, and was hired by Ernst & Young. Later I came full circle and taught Ethics in Entrepreneurship at MSU Denver. Along the way I became a young widow and a single mom of two, and owning our home carried us through those years. That's the heart of why I do this work.

I'm also a Reiki Master, a Team Captain for Project I See You, a board member of the Littleton Merchants Association, and an Ambassador for the Littleton Business Chamber.

Tell us one thing you love about where you live now.

Downtown Littleton knows your name. I can walk Main Street on a Tuesday afternoon and stop to hug three shop owners before I reach my coffee. When I wondered how our small businesses would survive COVID, this community answered by showing up for each other, and it still does. Every Off the Clock! Let's Shop! night proves it all over again.

Tell us a little more about what your company does and how it started. How does it help your customers?

Creative Grace Homes helps people buy and sell homes, with a special place in my heart for women: single moms, first-time buyers, and families making a last move, whether that's downsizing or helping a parent into assisted living.

The dream was sparked the day I became a homeowner in my twenties. I knew at that moment I wanted to help other people experience what I felt walking through my own front door. My dream of serving people professionally came true in 2019.

The way I help is simple and a little different. Before we ever look at a house, we sit down and work through what you need, what you want, and what you intend for your life. Sometimes that's the numbers and a plan. Sometimes it's protecting your family with life insurance or a trust. And sometimes it's a Reiki or sound healing session to clear the space so you can hear what your heart is telling you. It's safe to be scared. I walk every step with you, not ahead of you, and I'm still here long after closing.

If someone wants to start a business, what advice would you give them?

Know your why, and lean into what is needed to bring it into existence. Serving others in the world of finance taught me that a business that can't read its own numbers is guessing. But of all the wisdom I have learned, this matters most: the numbers alone won't get you through the hard seasons; your why will.

Being a small business owner takes a community; building it alone will bring more heartache than happiness. Find the shop owners, the advisors, and the friends who want to see you win, and cheer just as loudly for them, as it takes a village. Finally, "No" is a complete sentence. Protect your time and your energy so you have something left to give.

What is one piece of feedback from a happy customer or client that you won't forget?

“Her kindness, grace, and dignity were paramount to keeping me motivated and positive. Not only did I choose a great realtor, but I made a great friend in the process.” That's why I do this.

Where do you see your company in the future?

I see Creative Grace Homes as the place women in our community think of first when life asks them to move: their first home, a fresh start, or their last move. In 2027, I will continue to take Off the Clock! Let's Shop! up and down Main Street with new hosts each month, and the circle I have built with trusted professionals, from senior living advisors to elder law attorneys and moving managers, along with other resources to support every family, will continue to grow and change as I serve the community.

Most of all, I want to keep helping Project I See You grow. When they started in 2021, the goal was to help 10 women. They've now helped over 140 women become homeowners, and every one still owns her home. I want to help write the next hundred stories.

What is the biggest misconception about your industry?

That all agents are the same, and that the loudest name must be the safest choice. Too many people, especially women buying for the first time, feel pushed through a fast, confusing system, then blame themselves when hidden fees or a vanished agent catch them off guard.

A good agent teaches you, does not rush, and honors your timing. You deserve someone who asks what matters most to you, explains every number and stays by your side through the waiting, the negotiating, and the day after closing.

What has been one of your biggest struggles building your business, and how did you deal with it?

This past year has asked me to let go, to be open, to be curious and to honor my heart. In the spring, I ended a long relationship with a business coach, a difficult decision yet a necessary one and the right choice for everyone.

I dug in and made sure I was honoring my health, the foundation for life: good sleep, quiet mornings, gratitude written out every day. I completed Danelle Delgado's 21-Day Comeback Challenge! Those 21 days – changed me in ways I am still in awe of, and I am still taking in new things. I said yes to being on the committee that brings in the speakers for the Littleton Business Chamber's Women in Leadership Conference, and to the Wine Walks in Downtown Littleton launched by the Littleton Merchants Association from May to September, and I launched Off the Clock! Let's Shop! in July. And I continue my support of the Littleton Business Chamber as an Ambassador, meeting and connecting new members to all that the Chamber brings to the community.

Every hard season in my life has opened a door I couldn't see from the other side, and this one did too.

Who was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?

The Beatles! I cannot name one song as a favorite; each one holds a wonderful memory, and I still love them. And Billie Jean King, because of what I witnessed watching the “Battle of the Sexes” in 1973: that anything is possible.

Any shoutouts you want to make?

To Project I See You and every woman who has walked through her own door because of it. To the Downtown Littleton shops that open their doors for Off the Clock: Lollygag Boutique & Antiques, Bridget's Botanicals, True Find Boutique, Kate's Wine Bar and Grande Station, who said yes in the beginning to help me. To Dirt Coffee Bar and Adventures in Dance, who will close this year out for Off the Clock! Let's Shop! To Jared Frost of Blue Pebble Homes for suggesting the idea of Off the Clock! To the Littleton Merchants Association and the Littleton Business Chamber. To the Littleton Independent newspaper and Voyage Denver for first sharing my story. To my husband, my home team, who stands next to me cheering me on, and to my kids, who grew up in a garage full of music, roller skates, and four-square, and who remind me every day what home really means.
